The Island of Sao Miguel offers a combination of extraordinary views and amazing places and is a great place to bike. Sao Miguel is the largest of the archipelago's nine islands; it is commonly known as the Ilha Verde (Green Island) and provides a rewarding introduction to the Azores.
This cycling holiday allows you to see the very best that this island has to offer at a very leisurely pace so that you can really appreciate all that the island has to offer.
All the rides are on quiet surfaced roads and the accommodation we use are comfortable 3/4* hotels with extensive facilities.

Itinerary
Day 1 – arrival in Ponta Delgada and transfer to Capelas. Check in Hotel Solar do Conde. Capelas is on the north coast about 12 km from the airport.
Day 2 – your bicycle is delivered to hotel and we make sure you are happy with it before you enjoy a 20 km circular tour on surfaced roads along the northwest coast with the most amazing views.
Day 3 – this is a 45 km ride eastwards along the north coast, there is one steep climb but after that you have a wonderful descent into the town of Furnas. Hotel Terra Nostra Garden.
Day 4 – a 25km circular ride which is easy taking you along the banks of Furnas Lake a lush and green abundant valley with geysers and steam holes, healing mineral waters, and a world renown botanical park with flora from around the world. You also visit Ribeira Quente, a typical fishing village where you can swim in thermally-warmed ocean water.
Day 5 – free or tour Salto do Cavalo, Povoacao. This tour has quite a bit of up hill and down hill stretches, but your efforts are rewarded with spectacular scenery.
Day 6 – a 45 km ride via south coast to Ponta Delgada. There is one hill at the beginning but after that it is 'plain sailing'. Hotel Vila Nova in Ponta Delgada.
Day 7 – a stunning 40 km ride to Sete Cidades Lake, where you have a dramatic and beautiful ride along the rim of the extinct volcano crater overlooking the blue and green twin lakes. Your return is by the same route because the landscape is so stunning and there is so much to see (see photo at the top of the page).
Day 8 – departure from hotel and transfer to airport.
