Self Guided – Algarve / Alentejo - Beyond the Mountains
Intermediate / Advanced level, minimum 2 people
This 7 night tour has been specifically designed for the more serious cyclist who wants a more challenging ride each day but at the same time wishes to experience great scenery. The tour begins and ends in Loule (famous for its Saturday market) and takes you through the mountains of Monchique to the west coast and the Alentejo. Here you can experience fabulous coastal scenery, tiny unspoilt villages and great food before riding to Cape St Vincent – the most south westerly point in Europe. Your ride continues through the unspoilt countryside of the Algarve to the old Moorish capital of Silves before passing orange and olive groves on your way back to Loule.
The route uses quiet surfaced roads as much as possible.

Itinerary
Day 1 – arrive and transfer to Loule where the bikes will be delivered.
Day 2 – Loule to Monchique (63km but with a very stiff climb at the end), overnight Monchique.
Day 3 – a ride from Monchique in to the Alentejo to the small coastal town of Odeceixe (64km) overnight Odeceixe.
Day 4 – a day to explore the Alentejo coast and its beached with a choice of routes, 30 – 60km depending on route, overnight Odeceixe.
Day 5 – Odeceixe to the most south – westerly point in Europe and the old coastal port of Sagres, 75km, overnight Sagres.
Day 6 – through the countryside from Sagres to Silves the old Moorish capital of the Algarve, 68km, overnight Silves.
Day 7 – a ride in totally unspoilt countryside passing through small villages back to Loule (78km), overnight Loule.
Day 8 – transfer to airport or train station.
