SELF GUIDED - MAGICAL ALENTEJO (Evora and its countryside)
Beginner / Intermediate level, minimum 2 people

Magical Alentejo This 4 night tour will allow you to explore and discover the best of the Alentejo using quiet roads and good tracks.

Your base is a typical Alentejo house – Monte do Serrado just 8km from the UNESCO world heritage town of Evora yet set in a tranquil setting with beautiful scenery.

The Monte has its own organic vegetable garden, sheep pastures, olive and orange groves. From here we offer 3 routes which will take you in different directions around Evora and you can also use the bikes to explore the town itself.

You cycle on a mixture of quiet country roads and good tracks, busy main roads are avoided wherever possible and so are steep hills.

Itinerary

Day 1 – arrival in Evora and transfer to Monte do Serrado – welcome drink and dinner)

Day 2 – Transfer to Guadalupe; from here you cycle back to the farm through holm oak forest and grazing land. On your way you will visit the Dolmen of Zambujeiro – the biggest in Europe, the Cromelech of Almendres, probably the oldest megalithic monument in Europe and with a beautiful view over Évora, the Menhir of Almendres, the Church of Mitra and the Roman Ruins of Nossa Srª da Tourega. There should be time in the afternoon to visit Evora. (45km)

Day 3 – A circular ride today, starting with a ride along the eco trail, a green lane built on top of an old railway. You ride along it through small farms, eventually reaching Graça do Divor, a beautiful white and blue village very well preserved. Good place to stop for a drink and try the delicious meat pies of Mrs Ilda! From here you’ll ride to the Arraiolos village, with its beautiful historical centre, the famous carpets and the delicious Pastéis de Toucinho. The views from this castle are unforgettable. It’s now time to visit a winery and, a few kms later, there is another one! Both beautiful and with very good wine. On your way back to the farm you’ll pass by Divor Dam and its lovely lake (50km). Dinner

Day 4 – Today you ride to Valongo to see its surreal castle built in the middle of nowhere! On your way there is the opportunity to visit a traditional leather factory and during the season an olive mill. From Valongo we invite you to discover the country side at its best, following a dirt road until the gorgeous Moinho do Alcaide (a water mill) and then following along the river side passing by several mills until you reach the main road. There is then the opportunity to visit the Ervideira winery before we collect you and return you to the Monte (50km)

Day 5 – transfer to the bus station in Evora.
