Alentejo is a scarcely populated region with open horizons and it is perfect for riding a bicycle and experiencing an unforgettable adventure. This is a land with an amazing heritage. This tour will take you to see remarkable traces of ancient Cultures where dolmens and cromlechs, and Roman and Arab ruins mingle with the most recent signs of Christianity of which the numerous medieval
castles are great examples. The rolling horizons scattered with whitewashed villages make for a picturesque landscape and you will have time to visit Evora, which is classified as World Heritage in UNESCO’s International Heritage list, and some other beautiful villages, including Estremoz, Vila Vicosa and Monsaraz.
This tour is for the beginner / intermediate with an average of 46km a day with no real climbs

April 6 – 13, April 27 – May 4 and September 21 – 28
Day 1 – arrival and transfer to Santiago de Escoural in the Alentejo. Overnight S. Escoural.
Day 2 – an absolutely fascinating 60km circular ride around the famous cromlechs and dolmens of the Alentejo. Overnight S. Escoural.
Day 3 – Free day to visit the UNESCO World Heritage site of Evora (no lunch or dinner on this day). Overnight Evora.
Day 4 – transfer to Evoramonte and today you pass forests of cork oaks and rolling fields to the old town of Estremoz, 42km. Overnight Rio dos Moinhos, near Estremoz.
Day 5 – a fascinating journey through the famous marble quarries of the Alentejo to Villa Vicosa with its famous palace, 47km. Overnight Terena.
Day 6 – on our way to the amazing walled town of Monsaraz you pass ancient standing stones and dolmens (burial chambers) that are scattered throughout the region, 42km. Overnight Monsaraz.
Day 7 – the route today allows you to wend your way through the vineyards which produce famous wines and we will have time to sample some before our journey ends, 30km. Overnight Reguengo de Monsaraz.
Day 8 – transfer back to Lisbon airport after breakfast.
